Mola, eh?

A polychaete swimming almost at 8000 meters depth is one of the coolest thing I've seen lately. The Kermadec Trench is situated north of New Zealand, and is one of the deepest in the world. Last May some people from NIWA went in a research voyage to explore what is going on down there, and they came back with lots of different material. You can know more about the project here: HADES and look at all the crazy creatures living that deep. To have a reference point of how deep, think about Everest, 8,848 m height, add 1200 m and put it upside down. That deep. How cool is that?
