Valiente / Brave

Vetusta Morla says it loud and clear:
“being brave it is not just a matter of luck”
and here we go, vertigo in my stomach, feeling things accelerating around me, making decisions and getting ready for what is coming. Lots of things and very good things. I will start saying that during the next two weeks I will be packing my house and going on holiday for a long time, including a visit home, whooohooo!!!
With a bit of luck I can update this place more often. Stay tuned, I promise good photos and a few stories. 😉

Cuanta presión es mucha presión...?

Latitud: 53˚ 37.605 S
Longitud: 175˚ 46.849 E

Latitude: 53˚ 37.605′ S
Longitude: 175˚ 46.849′ E
Sea state: 3m Swell
Air temperature: 8.7˚ C
Water temperature: 6.7˚ C
Wind: 30.5 kn
Depth: 4848.3 m

In these latitudes the depth of the sea reaches 500o m. Normally, in the ocean, we measure depth with pressure units. The pressure on a point depends on the mass of water above that point. For example, if we are at 5000 m depth, pressure will be given by the  5km of water above us!!!  To show what is the effect of pressure we have done a mini experiment. In one of the locations where we have to deploy our equipment, we have attached a few foam cups. What do you think it will happen to them? The answer on the picture =)
Have you ever thought about those depths in the ocean? How do you think the conditions will be at those pressures? Do you think anything could live there? What do you think?

al agua patos!! / swimming!!

---
Last weekend we went to Tauranga for a swim. 2.6k between islands. Fantastic swim!! A great experience in my first swimming race =D As usual, I freaked out a bit when I could not see the bottom and a bit more when I could see the seaweed too close... More swimming adventures coming, stay tuned...

Bali, Indonesia

A glance of Bali from Aitana on Vimeo.

---
Of course, after the last day video this looks a bit boring! =) Stay tuned, lots of new things comming ;)

Bali, Indonesia; Uluwatu

---
And to finish the week in Bali we went to the south, to Uluwatu. Beautiful beaches but too many people, loads of tourists and lots of "posh" people.

---
Even though we could enjoy amazing sunsets. With a bit more time I maybe would have dared to hire a surf board...maybe next time?

Bali, Indonesia; Ubud

---
Once in Ubud we went to the Monkey Forest,  a place with strange sculptures and heaps of monkeys running around. You have to be careful, they are curious, cheeky and they like to grab things that are not theirs. Or jump into your shoulders...

---
In this visit I reassured two things. First one is that people are quite disrespectful, just to use a word to too harsh. The signs of don't feed the monkeys are everywhere, it doesn't matter, people feed the monkeys to take pictures with them, grrrr. The signs of don't give the monkeys plastic bags are, again, everywhere. And people GIVE THEM plastic bags. Really?
---
Second thing is that I am not sure I like monkeys that much, they are to similar too us. And if you don't believe me have a look at their hands...

---
After that we went to Tegallalang, to the rice paddies. We went for a walk and took pictures to any flower, any bug, any color  that we could find around.

Bali, Indonesia; Besakih Temple

---
The visit to the  Pura_Besakih temple was disappointing. If you want my advice, don't go. And if you do go, get the wallet ready and/or all your NOs ready. They will try to sell you everything, and you actually don't need anything. You only need a sarong (a piece of fabric around your wrist), you can bring yours, and the ticket fee that you buy on the last crossroad before the temple.

---
The temple is interesting, but you can have a look without paying the whole budget for your holidays. The worst thing is when they find out you are European and they want you to "tip" in euros... from that day, every time someone asked me where are you from, I said, from New Zealand.
---
An interesting feature is that the buildings always have an odd number of roofs, the more roofs the more important, and eleven is the maximum number.
 Próxima parada, Ubud!
---
Next stop, Ubud!

Bali, Indonesia

Tras intercambiar dinero y algunas indicaciones ahí vamos.
---
After three and a half hours flight from Kuala Lumpur we arrived into Bali. Before leaving the terminal we needed some cash, and for the first time in my life I'm a millionaire =). There the rental car contact was waiting for us, and after a short exchange of cash and non very clear indications off we go.
---
Driving in Bali is an adventure itslef, I think I will write a port only about this. I recommend to know where are you going before you start the drive, trying to find out on the way it's not a good idea. Luckily I had the best navigator ever,  and her phone with all the maps updated!

---
The first few days we stayed here, in Kubu, a very nice place with Ocean views. Swim, wreck diving, lots of underwater life (the biggest sea stars I've ever seen), sunbathing, read, sleep and repeat. We also had our first Balinese massage.

---
You know you are having a great holidays when this happens to your phone!!

View from the room / Vista desde la habitación
---
After a few days of total relax, next step Ubud. Stay tuned. Any comment or question welcome!
